Conservation District seeks art show submissions

The Warren County Conservation District is looking for submissions to an art contest – Healthy Soil, Healthy Life.

The contest is for students grades K-12.

“Life comes from soil. Not just plant life, but all life,” the Conservation District said in a statement. “What are the three things all living creatures need to live? Food, water, and shelter. The first one is easy. All food comes from the soil; even Twizzlers and Oreos, which are made with wheat flour. The wheat grain used to make flour is harvested from plants that need healthy soil to grow. Our meat even depends on healthy soil.

“Healthy soil grows the trees we use to build our houses, and soil microbes help clean your water. Healthy soil means healthy life on Earth.”

So the theme is “Healthy Soil, Healthy Life.”

All artwork must be original and cannot be traced from photographs or published works and no larger than 8.5 inches by 11 inches on cardstock. The work must be completed in pencil, crayon, colored pencil, marker, charcoal, paint or pen,

The theme must be located on the artwork which will be scored on its conservation message (50 percent), visual effectiveness (30 percent), originality (10 percent) and universal appeal (10 percent).

Those submitting should include name, address, phone number and grade on the back.
