Business challenge raises funds for Alzheimer’s care

Times Observer photo by Brian Ferry For the second straight year, Team Bevacqua — Marching with McKissock — has won the Warren Area Walk to End Alzheimer’s Business Challenge by raising the most money for the event. On Tuesday, the team accepted the traveling trophy, which did not have to go anywhere. The traveling business trophy didn’t have far to go this year.

The team that won the Warren Area Walk to End Alzheimer’s Business Challenge this year was Team Bevacqua — Marching with McKissock. That makes two years in a row for the team and they have no plans to let the trophy out of their grasp, according to team member Carmen Bevacqua.

The business challenge is a major part of the Warren Area Walk. “It’s our main fundraiser here in Warren County,” Bevacqua said.

Team Bevacqua raised $2,733.

The team is named in honor of Carmen Bevacqua’s father, Pete, who had Alzheimer’s.

The largest individual donor to the team was Colibri Group VP of Customer Operations Pamela Betz. Colibri Group is an umbrella group that includes McKissock.

Betz said the issue is close to her heart because her mother has Alzheimer’s.

The next Warren Area Walk to End Alzheimer’s will be held Saturday, Sept. 24, at Betts Park.

Warren County Chamber of Business and Industry Director of Chamber Operations and Tourism and Walk Committee Member John Papalia came up with the idea for a business challenge three years ago.

That year, Whirley took home the trophy.

For the last two, McKissock has won.

While he doesn’t plan to see anyone else win, Bevacqua encourages teams to try. “The business challenge is open to any business entity,” he said. Teams can include one person or 20.

“Anyone that wants to challenge them can contact me,” Papalia said.

Starting at $2.99/week.
