Times Observer photo by Brian Ferry Youngsville Borough Police officers gratefully accepted a donation of duty weapons and holsters from Walther Arms Inc. President and CEO and Youngsville native Rob McCanna. Pictured, from left, are Officer Ben Leach, Chief Todd Mineweaser, McCanna, and Officer Rick Alekson.
The president and CEO of a major firearms company was in Youngsville last week.
Rob McCanna, a Youngsville native, is the president and CEO of Walther Arms, Inc., of Fort Smith, Ark.
“I was born and raised here,” McCanna said. “I still have some family here.”
While he was in town, he made a donation to the Youngsville Borough Police Department. “I just wanted to find some way I could help in a small way,” McCanna said. “Where better to do that than in your hometown?”
“Walther Arms is a very historic company,” McCanna said. “We’ve just recently entered the market with a duty weapon that’s worthy of all law enforcement and military.”
That duty weapon is the Walther PDP and Youngsville police officers will be carrying them.
“We’re setting them up with new duty weapons and holsters for the whole force,” he said. “It’s nice to be here and support the officers at the local level. Walther Arms supports all law enforcement agencies at all levels.”
“Extra special is that this is my home town and I’m able to provide them with products to help make them an elite law enforcement agency,” McCanna said.
A representative from Walther worked with the officers on features and details of their new weapons.
The holsters had not arrived as of Tuesday, but Chief Todd Mineweaser had already had the PDPs fitted with optics. He expects his officers to qualify on the new weapons soon.
