Summer Music School to return for 34th program

Warren County Summer Music School is returning for its 34th annual program.

The school will be held for three weeks in June — June 12 through 30 — weekday mornings at Beaty-Warren Middle School.

The program is open to students entering fifth grade through adults.

“Class offerings provide multiple levels of lessons for all band and orchestral instruments as well as guitar, bass guitar, ukulele, Celtic harp, recorder, piano, and pipe organ,” according to Director Denise Pearson. “Several singing classes are offered plus instruction in visual art — drawing, painting, sculpture, fiber arts, handcrafted instruments, photography, and stop motion animation, theater, yoga, and several styles of dance.”

“Additional music classes include music theory, songwriting, GarageBand, drum circle, instrument repair, rap, making a music video, music and animals, and humor and music,” she said. “Music performance opportunities include orchestra, jazz band, show choir, handbells, and ‘strings, rock & rosin,'” Pearson said.

Course descriptions are available at www.wcsms.org.

“The wide range of classes enables beginners as well as advanced musicians and artists to develop and hone their skills in a nurturing and collaborative environment, taught by a faculty of 18,” she said. “Through the generous support of The Pennsylvania Council of the Arts, Community Foundation of Warren County, the Kay Hardesty Logan Foundation, and private gifts, the school is able to offer this hands-on instruction for the discounted tuition of $125 total for three weeks of five daily classes.”

Class sizes are limited and scheduled on a first-come, first-served basis. Transportation, via bus stops throughout the county, is available.
