Salvation Army seeks bell ringers for Red Kettle Campaign
Christmas might be over two months away.
But the Salvation Army is already gearing up for several holiday initiatives, most notable the Red Kettle Campaign.
And there’s challenges on the horizon.
Major Dorothy Budd said they’re “really struggling” to find people – both paid and volunteer – to ring the bells.
“We are trying to start early because we really need workers this year so we can make our goal,” she said. “We struggled to hire and get enough volunteers so we are hoping that starting sooner will help us.”
Anyone interested can stop by the Salvation Army for more information.
The annual start of the Red Kettle effort – the Kick-Off Auction – is set for Nov. 4 from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.
“This red kettle kick-off auction is more than a day where you bid on items to spread holiday cheer,” Budd said. “The auction and the Red Kettle Campaign makes it possible for The Salvation Army to serve over 36,000 meals all year.
“But it’s also more than meals. It’s hope when times are tough.”
“We invite all of Warren to come to The Salvation Army to help start Red Kettle Kick off,” Major Shane Budd added. “The money raised stays local and supports our community year-round.”
Many local businesses have donated baskets, which can be viewed online at the Warren Salvation Army’s Facebook page.
There will also be door prizes, giveaways, entertainment and refreshments.
“We are so grateful for the items that have been donated,” Maj. Shane Budd said. “We have beautiful artwork from local artists, sports event tickets, gift cards to name just a few. It is worthwhile for individuals to come and tour the Auction.”
Christmas applications are also open for those who need assistance. That application can be found on the Facebook page, as well.
NEW COATS
There will be a window next week – Oct. 25 from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. – for anyone who needs a coat for their child to come and get one.
Proof residence as well as proof of child – like an insurance card or school record – are required.
