Allen to retire from Pittsfield Township after 45 years
Pittsfield Township is saying goodbye to its secretary and treasurer after 45 years of service.
Craig Allen, who has served in the role since November 1978, has decided to retire in January.
“Way back in November 1978 my uncle, Howard Gustafson, stopped in and asked if I would be interested in the position of Pittsfield Township secretary/treasurer. The current secretary then was retiring from the position,” Allen said. “Howard’s brother, Herbert Gustafson, was a supervisor at the time for Pittsfield Township. After discussions with my wife, Diane, my dad, William Allen, who was a supervisor for neighboring Freehold Township, and then Freehold Township Secretary Harold Mallery, I decided to accept the position if appointed.”
Allen said his time with the township has been a positive experience for him.
“It has been a great part-time job,” he said “The supervisors and employees over the past 45 years have been great to work with. After 45 years it’s time to retire from the position. I want to thank the past and current supervisors and employees for a great 45 years.”
Taryne Lewis will take over the secretary/treasurer role upon Allen’s retirement.
