Seven Warren County Career Center students have brought home medals from the DECA State Competition.

Five students brought home three medals – Andria Anderson, Drake Lawson, Kaylee Lundmark, Rylan Meneo and Sarah Tome. Gracie Tomassoni secured two medals while David Perry brought home one.

DECA is a nonprofit organization that prepares emerging leaders and entrepreneurs for careers in marketing, finance, hospitality and management in high schools and colleges.

Ryan Schnars, adviser for the DECA club at the WCCC, said that 13 students took part in the competition, which was held last month at the Hershey Lodge.

He said that students are scored on three components – one 100 question multiple choice exam and two role plays.

Thirteen Warren County Career Center students represented the district at the DECA State Competition in Hershey last month.

“Students are given a scenario to a real-world situation in their marketing or business event and have to find a solution and present their solution to a judge,” Schnars explained. “Medallions are given out to students who have a top three score in one of the three scored categories.”

Andria Anderson secured three medallions in the Quick Serve Restaurant Management category while Drake Lawson also took three in Principles of Hospitality and Tourism.

Kaylee Lundmark won three in Personal Financial Literacy while Rylan Meneo took three in Sports and Entertainment Marketing along with Sarah Tome, who won three in Apparel and Accessories Marketing.

Gracie Tomassoni won two in Business Services Marketing while David Parry won one in Business Services Marketing.

Practice is part of the preparation process and Schnars said that practice judges included Casey Ferry, executive director at the Warren County Visitors Bureau, and Michelle Betts, vice president of marketing and business development at Betts Industries.

“We really appreciate that Michelle and Casey were willing to lend their time and expertise to our students in order to help them prepare for the State Competition,” Schnars said.

Starting at $2.99/week.
