Farmer’s Market thriving on Saturdays in Warren

The Warren Farmer’s Market is humming along each Saturday from 8 a.m. to noon at the Midtown Lot in downtown Warren. “It’s going really well,” Farmer’s Market Board Member Josie Gerardi said. “Last week was the biggest weekend so far we’ve had in years. (There were) 28 vendors and there’s still more to come.”

As the summer growing season starts to come full circle, the Warren Farmer’s Market is ready for some booming business.

The Market is held at the Midtown Lot in Warren every Saturday from 8 a.m. to noon through October.

“It’s going really well,” Farmer’s Market Board Member Josie Gerardi said. “Last week was the biggest weekend so far we’ve had in years. (There were) 28 vendors and there’s still more to come.”

The Market has been open each Saturday since June but the time of year we’re currently in appears to be driving interest.

“We have several produce vendors already and it usually gets big this time of year,” she said.

Photos provided to the Times Observer Live music is one of the highlights of the Warren Farmer’s Market each week.

That’s when the fruits and vegetables start to appear at the sale in earnest.

But the Market is more than just those fruits and vegetables.

“We have a lot of craft vendors of different sorts this year,” Gerardi said.

That includes potted plants, baked goods, flowers, honey, maple syrup and Gary Lester’s “trashidermy” and live music, among others.

She also specifically highlighted a couple farms – Carl Schultz’ Small Mead Farms and Fireberry Farm.

“Carl is quite a farmer,” Gerardi said, and “has a lot of greenhouses, organic vegetables.”

She noted that provides the vegetables to the Bear Lake Inn.

She added that Fireberry Farm is selling both produce and potted vegetable plants at the Market.

More vendors are expected this week and Gerardi said anyone interested in getting involved in that capacity is asked to reach out to director Jen Rossey.

She highlighted out how the Market has really become a “social event.

“I usually do every Saturday and check around with the vendors and buy some produce,” she said. “There are people, you see old friends you haven’t seen since maybe the last Farmer’s Market. It’s a social activity of the Warren area, not just Warren but Warren County.

“It’s a good thing,” she added. “We’re fortunate to have it.”

Starting at $2.99/week.
