Police investigating inmate death at Warren County Jail

Times Observer photo by Josh Cotton A series of investigations are underway or will be underway regarding how Michael Burham was able to escape from the Warren County Jail. The most pressing is a criminal probe into last Thursday night’s escape.

City of Warren police are investigating the death of an inmate at the Warren County Jail.

Warren County Jail Warden Rusty Barr told the Times Observer that “an inmate was found unresponsive” Saturday shortly before 11 p.m.

“Staff immediately provided medical aid until the arrival of Warren City Fire Department and EmergyCare where they continued to provide medical care,” he added. “This is an ongoing investigation being conducted by the Warren City Police Department.”

City of Warren Police Chief Joe Sproveri said his department was dispatched to the jail at 10:57 p.m. for a reported cardiac arrest.

“Upon arrival, a known inmate, Joseph Patrick Dorsey, Jr., was found unresponsive,” he explained.

Sproveri said that life-saving measures were attempted but were unsuccessful. Dorsey,30, was pronounced deceased on scene.

He added that police are investigating the incident and awaiting pathology reports.

“The inmate was housed in an isolation cell,” Sproveri said, “and no foul play is suspected.”
