Benefit planned Warren woman battling breast cancer
Brandilyn Lyon, 40, is a lifelong resident of Warren County, growing up in Sugar Grove and graduating from Eisenhower. She now resides in Warren with her dog, Jim.
Lyon underwent hip repair surgery in October 2023. While in recovery and preparing for surgery on the other hip, she received the results from a routine mammogram; a mass was detected in her right breast.
On Jan. 12, she was diagnosed with an invasive form of breast cancer.
Further imaging and biopsies would result in finding the cancer was spread to a lymph node, adding Metastatic Breast Cancer to the diagnosis.
Lyon began chemotherapy at Warren Cancer Center in March and endured the first half of 6 cycles very ill with side effects, spending nearly a week in the hospital after her first cycle.
Her last chemo treatment was on July 9, and on Aug. 15, she underwent a double mastectomy. Lyon had an additional surgery on Aug. 23 to remove dead skin.
While the most challenging parts seem to be behind her, Lyon still has another surgery, several months of treatments, and recovery ahead of her.
Lyon has been a beloved and active figure in many children’s lives, and she finds joy in helping them learn and grow.
The spaghetti dinner benefit will be held Saturday, Sept. 28 from 3 to 6 p.m., at the Hessel Valley Church at 166 Hessel Valley Road in Chandlers Valley, and will be take-out only. The cost is by donation, which will all go to Lyon to help offset medical costs.
Donations are welcome even if community members cannot attend the benefit, and can be sent to Hessel Valley Lutheran Church PO Box 43, Chandlers Valley, PA 16312, with checks payable to HVLC, with Brandilyn Lyon written in the memo line.
