Studebaker Drivers Club offers a trip down memory lane this weekend
The Studebaker name is a familiar one in the Warren and Chautauqua county region. If you’ve ever taken the tour of the Chautauqua Institution grounds, the Studebaker home along the shores of Chautauqua Lake is a highlight of the driving tour.
Studebaker started building horse drawn equipment in 1852. Keeping up with the times, they moved on to automobile making in 1902, electric! They then built the gasoline powered vehicles in 1904.
Unfortunately, their last built vehicles were in 1966.
Though they are no longer being built, Studebaker has many fans. The Studebaker Drivers Club was founded in 1962 and today there are local chapters all over the globe.
The eighth Studebaker Swap Meet returns to the Chautauqua County Fairgrounds, 1089 Central Ave., Dunkirk on Friday from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Saturday from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. It is free and open to the public.
You don’t have to be a member of the Studebaker Club to come and enjoy this event. The meet is sponsored by the Kinzua Region Chapter Studebaker Drivers Club.
Vendors will be selling everything from the smallest, but very important part, to an entire vehicle. Enjoy looking at or even buying a classic Studebaker which will be on display in the car corral. There will also be books on Studebaker vehicles, literature, memorabilia, toys and a beautiful pictorial Studebaker 2025 calendar.
A great present no matter what car you like, though the swap meet is predominantly for the Studebaker enthusiast, other car related items and “guy stuff” will be available for sale.
Vendors will be coming from Michigan, New Hampshire, Ohio, Ontario, Tennessee, Pennsylvania and of course, New York. Shoppers come from all over the United States searching for the perfect accessory and repair part.
The Studebaker followers are very loyal to their brand. JJ’s Backyard BBQ & Catering of Forestville will be available throughout the two days offering delicious food and beverages. So mark your calendars for this Friday and Saturday and come be part of the Studebakers at Dunkirk Swap Meet.
