Benefit scheduled for local woman with terminal cancer
Flick is a sister, wife, mother, and grandmother who loves her family and God. Over the past four years, she has continued to work various jobs, such as cleaning homes and mowing lawns, despite undergoing treatments and surgeries. She has taken on these jobs to support her family and pay her medical bills. Unfortunately, she has had to switch insurance companies multiple times and has lost employment due to her illness.
Flick, a member of the Saron Lutheran Church in Youngsville, has more challenging medical procedures ahead. She recently underwent surgery to insert springs to redirect blood flow in her liver, and she is now preparing for another surgery on October 8. This upcoming procedure will involve the removal of a significant tumor from the right side of her liver and another tumor located on her aorta. Following the surgery, Flick will need to stay in the hospital for 5-10 days to aid her recovery.
The medical expenses associated with Flick’s treatments have accumulated, and her community is rallying together to seek support in alleviating this financial burden.
“We know God has a purpose for Melissa to be here. Melissa is a special friend to all, has a heart of gold, and is always there to help in any way,” said Deb Yucha, a member of Saron Lutheran Church.
To quote Flick: “Jesus went through worse for me; why wouldn’t I be in church to praise him.”
Saron is having a spaghetti dinner with salad, bread, and cookies, take-out only, on Sunday, Oct. 13, from 11 a.m. until 2 p.m., or until sold out, to help with medical expenses. The dinner cost is a donation. Drive to the parking lot door, and dinners will be delivered to cars.
All money raised goes directly to Melissa Flick. Donations can also be sent to Saron Lutheran Church, 148 West Main Street, Youngsville, PA 16371.
