911 call gone wrong lands man in jail

SHEFFIELD – A Warren man faces felony assault charges after allegedly fighting police officers who responded to help the man with a possible drug overdose.

Jeremy J. Larson, 41, was charged at 2:30 p.m. Sunday with two counts of aggravated assault, each a class 1 felony, two charges of simple assault, a misdemeanor, two counts of harassment – subjecting another to physical contact, and disorderly conduct – engage in fighting after allegedly assaulting two Pennsylvania State Troopers after Larson called 9-1-1 for a possible accidental overdose.

“The complainant, Jeremy Larson, called and stated that he took a hit of marijuana and believed it may have been laced with fentanyl and he was overdosing,” the affidavit of probable cause stated.

Three troopers from the State Police at Warren barracks responded to the Ruth Smith Center, 407 S. Main St., Apt. B, Sheffield, and found two staff members from the center as well as EMS from Emergycare and the Sheffield Volunteer Fire Department outside. Troopers tried to talk to Larson, who police say was walking around the yard mumbling to himself.

One trooper tried to ask Larson what he took, with Larson looking at the trooper and then allegedly charging at him, with Larson throwing his right shoulder into the trooper’s left shoulder. Another trooper then tried to calm Larson down, and he shoved the second trooper with both hands in the chest. The trooper “then assisted Larson to the ground where he was detained …” Larson allegedly continued to fight with officers while they tried to arrest him, including kicking at officers before they placed him in a patrol vehicle.

“During transport to PSP Warren, Larson laid down in the back seat and was kicking the rear passenger door,” the affidavit states. “The transport had to be stopped and Larson’s feet were secured to prevent him from kicking.”

Larson was taken to the Warren County Prison after a preliminary hearing Sunday night. Bail was set at $40,000 by Judge Laura Bauer. A preliminary hearing will be Nov. 13.
