Gausman becomes first woman to lead State Police Troop E crime unit

Lieutenant Gausman received her graduation certificate on Thursday, September 12, from the FBI Director, Christopher Wray.

This past spring, Lieutenant Mary L. Gausman became the new Crime Lieutenant for Troop E.

Gausman oversees the State Police crime detectives at all Troop E Stations, including Erie, Girard, Corry, Meadville, Warren, and Franklin. She is the first woman to lead the Troop E Crime unit. On September 12, Lieutenant Gausman accomplished another remarkable achievement when she graduated from the 291st session of the FBI National Academy.

The intensive, 10-week course is held at the FBI Training Academy on the Marine Corps Base in Quantico, Virginia.

The program is widely recognized as one of the best in the world for training police executives in leadership. It offers advanced training in intelligence theory, terrorism and terrorist mindsets, management science, law, behavioral science, law enforcement communication, and forensic science.

The program is designed to enhance the administration of justice in police departments and agencies domestically and internationally and elevate law enforcement standards, knowledge, and collaboration worldwide.

The selection process for attending the program is highly competitive, with less than one percent of law enforcement executives selected.

The program is known for being both academically and physically demanding.

“The knowledge and connections she gained there will benefit State Police operations in our entire region, including Warren. In terms of policing, the FBI National Academy is like the “West Point” of the profession,” said Jeffrey Johnson, patrol clerk for PSP.

Starting at $2.99/week.
