Partial closure planned for State Street and the Bayfront Parkway next week
Continuing work along the Bayfront Parkway will require the closure of a portion of the waterfront side of State Street in the city of Erie.
For the past several months, the contractor has been working to relocate telecommunication and electric services from above ground to beneath the parkway and State Street. This work includes the placement of large concrete vaults in a deep excavation. As that portion of work is completed, the next step will be to install underground utility conduits that will ultimately complete the loop adjacent to Front Street.
For the safety of drivers and workers during this step, State Street will be closed between the intersection with the Bayfront Parkway and the intersection with Front Street on the waterfront side. The closure is expected to go into place on December 4, 2024, weather permitting, and last approximately five weeks.
Drivers can continue to access all businesses on the waterfront side of State Street by using Sassafras Street Extension or Holland Street and Front Street.
The utility relocation is a necessary step prior to the reconstruction of State Street as a grade-separated intersection.
