Union City man faces drug charges
A Union City man faces felony charges after allegedly agreeing through Facebook to come to Warren to use drugs in a city hotel.
Nicholas J. Oneal, 36, of Union City was charged Nov. 7 with three felony charges of manufacture, delivery or possession with intent to manufacture or deliver; a felony charge of criminal use of communication facility, four misdemeanor charges of intent to possess a controlled substance by a person not registered; and cited for driving while operating privileges suspended or revoked, driving an unregistered vehicle, operating a vehicle without a valid inspection and using an improper class of license. He was taken to the Warren County Prison after bail was set at $35,000.
According to the criminal complaint filed on file with Judge Laura Bauer’s office, an undercover Conewango Township police officer was in contact with Oneal starting in October and continuing in November through Facebook Messenger.
“The conversation resulted in the defendant messaging about bringing controlled substances, namely methamphetamine, MDMA and marijuana for the defendant and undercover officer to use at a prearranged location,” the affidavit of probable cause states.
Oneal allegedly told the undercover officer on Nov. 7 that he was on the way to the Warren location, asking if the undercover officer still wanted to meet and bring the substances to the hotel. Oneal allegedly said he was going to bring his motorcycle to the hotel.
The officer said he saw the motorcycle on state Route 6 around 10:45 p.m. Nov. 7, saw Oneal get to the hotel and park the motorcycle. A license check confirmed Oneal’s identity.
“The defendant was taken into custody near his motorcycle,” the affidavit states. “The defendant was searched incident to arrest and approximately 6.43 grams of methamphetamine, marijuana and two MDMA pills were located on the defendant’s person. The defendant had a glass pipe and two hypodermic needles on his person. The defendant was provided his Miranda rights and did make the statement that, ‘We are two consenting adults, who cares if we use drugs.'”
A preliminary hearing will be held today in front of Judge Bauer.
