After another impressive season, the Youngsville Marching Eagles participated in their last competition on November 3 at the Atlantic Coast Championships in Hershey.

“Everyone did a great job, and they had fun, and that is the most important part of it,” said Cindy Scheid, band director. “The score (92) wasn’t what we had hoped for, but it was an outstanding performance to end the year.”

The Eagles’ score of 92 was good enough to give them fourth place in the Open division, with 10 bands competing.

On Thursday evening, the Youngsville Marching Eagles wrapped up their season with its Halftime Review Show in the Youngsville Middle Senior High gymnasium.

As the future of Youngsville High School remains uncertain with the possible closure of Youngsville High School, the band students express their commitment to musical opportunities, albeit with doubts about joining the marching band at Eisenhower Middle-High School if that is what the future holds.

“I will still play music; I just don’t think I will want to be a part of a different marching band,” said Caitlyn Pikna, a junior who had a leadership position this season within the band and said, “There was a learning curve being a leader, but also growth.”

Mikey Carnahan, one of the band’s three seniors, reflected on his journey as a Marching Eagle, knowing this was his last year.

“It is going to be a big change in the fall, not to be playing with the band, to not go out on the field to march,” said Carnahan.

Carnahan has been in the marching band since seventh grade. He said this season was “amazing. We worked well together, and it made it a great season.”

Carnahan plans to continue his musical passions into the future, possibly as a minor in college but certainly as a hobby.

The team recognized the three seniors, Carnahan, Lucas Keefer, and Kenneth Shellhouse, with an exit ceremony over the weekend while in Hershey.

According to Scheid, the band has a tradition of introducing new band members to the 3 D’s (Determination, Dedication, and Discipline) at an entrance ceremony. The three D’s are reiterated during the exit ceremony, and the seniors are presented with a ring to wear on their right pointer fingers to signify them moving forward into their future.

Starting at $2.99/week.
