ER Technician Honored With BEE Award
Lucas Martin is the latest recipient of the BEE Award presented by Warren General Hospital officials.
The BEE (Being Exceptional Every Day) award was developed to honor any hospital employee who is not a licensed nurse here at Warren General Hospital to complement the DAISY Award and honor patient care staff that continuously goes above and beyond for patients and their families every day.
“It is important our employees know their work is highly valued, and the BEE Program provides a way for us to do that,” said Rick Allen, Warren General Hospital CEO.
The twelfth BEE Award recipient at Warren General Hospital is Lucas Martin, ERT. Martin was nominated by Donald Fileger, a patient’s family member.
“My mother came into the ER not feeling well,” Filegar wrote. “Lucas was her ERT that day. He was so attentive and kind to her. She can be demanding at times, but that did not seem to bother Lucas at all. He answered her call bell quickly and was so polite, professional and caring towards my mother. He answered all of my questions quickly and if he did not know the answer; it took him no time at all to find it and provided us with the information we were looking for.
Although it appeared to be a busy day for him as I am sure he had many other patients, his caring demeanor and positive attitude made my mother feel as though she was his only patient. I have taken care of my mother for many years and before my father’s passing, had taken care of him as well. With that sadly, comes frequent hospital visits. With that said, I have never in all those years been so impressed and pleased with the care provided by Warren General Emergency Room and especially by Lucas that day. Many, many, many thanks to Lucas! He made what typically is a tough and exhausting experience, smooth, painless and comforting. I strongly recommend that he receives this award as I am a firm believer that work ethic, kindness and a passion for what you do should never go unnoticed.”
Employees may be nominated by patients, families, and colleagues. The award recipient is chosen by a committee at Warren General Hospital to receive The BEE Award. Awards are presented throughout the year at celebrations attended by the Honoree’s colleagues, patients, and visitors. Each honoree receives a certificate commending her or him for Being Exceptional Every day. Honorees also receive a BEE Award pin, a gift card at the hospital’s Window Box gift shop, four free lunches at the cafeteria, eight hour awards day off, and a crystal called the Bumble Bee Jasper, found at Mount Papandayan in Indonesia.
“We are proud to recognize our exceptional healthcare workers,” said Joe Akif, Warren General Hospital chief nursing officer. “They are everyday heroes, and it’s important that they know their work is highly valued. The BEE Award provides a way for us to do that.”
