Salvation Army’s Red Kettle campaign struggling to meet goal

The Salvation Army’s Red Kettle campaign ends today – and results aren’t looking good.

This year’s campaign, according to a recent news release, has raised just over half of the funds needed to support families in need across 28 counties in Western Pennsylvania. The Salvation Army Western Pennsylvania Division has received more than $1,232,769 in donations, which is almost 53 percent of the total fundraising goal of $2.34 million.

In Alleghany County, the Red Kettle fundraising goal is $557,000. The Salvation Army has raised an estimated $296,253 across the county so far, which is 53 percent of the total goal. Thanks has to be given to an anonymous “angel’ donor, gifts given in various Salvation Army locations on Saturday December 21, one of which is Warren, will be matched, up to $5,000. Donations made will help ensure that the Salvation Army can continue critical services such as feeding initiatives, rent and utility assistance, seasonal assistance, youth empowerment and spiritual programs.

\The Salvation Army has been iconic in its sights and sounds of Christmas bells and Red Kettles since 1891. Donations can be made in person at Red Kettle locations around the world or locally throughout Western Pennsylvania.The last day for donations is Christmas Eve. Local gifts can also be given virtually by visiting salvationarmywpa.org or by texting the word “Kettle” to 31333. Donors can then reply with their Zip code to ensure each donation goes directly back to their community.
