Jamestown man sentenced to local jail time
A Jamestown, N.Y., man will spend between six months and two years and a day in the Warren County Jail after pleading guilty to a simple assault charge during sentencing court held recently in Judge Maureen Skerda’s courtroom.
Douglas A. Harkins, 49, pleaded guilty in January 2024 to simple assault while charges of aggravated assault, a class 2 felony, simple assault, disorderly conduct, harassment and public drunkenness were not prosecuted. In addition to local jail time, Harkins was sentenced to pay a $500 fine, a drug and alcohol evaluation and 50 hours of community service.
Other sentences include:
Danielle M. Byerley, 42, Endeavor, Pa. had pleaded guilty to charges of strangulation, harassment and criminal mischief while a charge of strangulation was not prosecuted. Byerley was sentenced to between four months and two years and a day in the Warren County Prison, a drug and alcohol evaluation, a COG program and $1,000 in fines.
Gabriel E. O’Neil, 33, Warren, was sentenced to pay a $1,000 fine, pay $50 restitution to the Warren County Drug Task Force, six months restricted intermediate punishment that includes 30 days in the Warren County Jail and 60 days use of a SCRAM bracelet, drug and alcohol treatment, attendance in a COG program and 50 hours community service after pleading guilty to possession of drug paraphernalia. Charges of possession of marijuana and possession of marijuana were withdrawn.
John W. Peterson was sentenced to pay a $750 fine, a 12-month driver’s license suspension, six months of restricted intermediate punishment that includes 30 days in the Warren County Jail and 60 days use of a SCRAM bracelet, 30 hours of community service, attendance in the AHSS program and Victims Impact Panel and drug and alcohol treatment as well as traffic fines after pleading guilty to DUI: high rate of alcohol – second offense and traffic violations. A charge of DUI: general impairment/incapable of driving safely -second offense was not prosecuted.
Richard T. Schuller, 24, of Tarentum, Pa., was sentenced to a $500 fine, a 12-month driver’s license suspension, six months restricted intermediate punishment that includes 48 hours in the Warren County Jail and 15 hours community service after pleading guilty to DUI: high rate of alcohol – first offense, and a traffic violation.
Christopher Zaffino, 40, of Warren was sentenced on three separate dockets. He was sentenced to between two months and a year in the Warren County Jail, a $250 fine, a mental health and drug and alcohol evaluation and 30 hours community service after pleading guilty to disorderly conduct, with charges of theft by unlawful taking and receiving stolen property not prosecuted. On a second docket, Zaffino was sentenced to a $250 fine, two to six months to run consecutively to his first sentence, attendance in a COG program and 70 hours community service after pleading guilty to disorderly conduct, with charges of obstructing administration of law and resisting arrest/other law enforcement not prosecuted. On a third docket, Zaffino was sentenced to pay a $300 fine and had a no-contact order entered into after pleading guilty to harassment, while a charge of disorderly conduct was not prosecuted.
Bench warrants were issued by Skerda for the following:
– Ronald J. Brown, 48, of Tionesta, who had earlier pleaded guilty to several traffic charges while two counts of DUI were not prosecuted.
– Katie L. Prettyman, 42, of Warren, who had previously pleaded guilty to DUI: highest rate of alcohol and careless driving on one docket and then DUI: highest rate of alcohol – second offense and five traffic infractions on a second docket. A charge of DUI: general impairment/incapable of driving safely – second offense,was not prosecuted.
