Retelling of infamous judicial assassination is Jan. 27

Photo provided to the Times Observer A Warren County Historical Society program set for Monday, Jan. 27, at 6 p.m. at the Warren County Courthouse will retell the story of the assassination of Judge Allison Wade, which occurred 70 years ago in 1954. Wade is the only judge in the nation’s history to have been killed on the bench.

Area residents will get one more chance to commemorate the 70th anniversary of the assassination of Judge Allison D. Wade.

Judge Allison D. Wade was president judge in Warren County from 1942 until 1954. On the morning of Jan. 13, 1954, Norman Moon, who was before the court in an alimony case, shot Wade several times with a Colt 45. The Assassination of Judge Allison D. Wade was first presented by the Warren County Historical Society in January 2024 and will repeat the presentation at 6 p.m. Monday, Jan. 27, in the Warren County Courthouse’s main courtroom.

“(Cody) Brown will walk the audience through the events that led up to the demise of the judge,” Michelle Gray, historical society director, told the Times Observer last year. “Get a glimpse of the actual weapon and Judge Wade’s gavel, both on loan from the Wilder Museum of Warren County History.”

Brown, currently the county’s first assistant district attorney, graduated from the Western Michigan Thomas M. Cooley Law School, where he served as an intern in the Michigan Attorney General’s Office. After graduation, he served as a law clerk in Warren County prior to his hire as assistant district attorney. He will run for Warren County District Attorney in November.
