Roots Rising Concert Series strikes a chord
Launched in the summer of 2024, the series showcases nationally recognized artists across genres like blues, country, folk, bluegrass and Americana.
“Roots Rising aligns with our mission to expand cultural appreciation and connect people of all ages,” said Baylie Hoffman, a marketing assistant at the Struthers Library Theatre “By presenting up-and-coming artists who innovate with traditional forms, we bridge generations while enriching the cultural fabric of our community.”
The emphasis on blues, country, folk, and bluegrass reflects the deep American roots of these genres.
“These styles are foundational to American music and have always resonated with our audiences,” Hoffman explained. “Our Roots Rising committee’s passion for these genres ensures every performance is both meaningful and memorable.”
Since its inception, Roots Rising has drawn enthusiastic crowds.
“It’s been exciting to see familiar faces returning to each show, regardless of their familiarity with the featured artist,” Hoffman noted. “The genuine curiosity and appreciation for these performances underscore the community’s hunger for cultural enrichment.”
The series’ 2025 lineup promises to continue its success, with performances by Alyssa Hankey on January 30, Early James on February 20, and India Ramey on March 14.
“Each artist represents a unique voice within their genre, offering audiences a fresh perspective on traditional music,” Hoffman shared.
Support from sponsors like the Warren Concert Association and the Sokolski Family Fund has helped make this possible, but the series’ long-term viability hinges on continued community involvement.
“Attending shows, sharing posts, and spreading the word are all ways the community can support the series,” Hoffman emphasized. “Ultimately, Roots Rising is about connecting friends, families, and neighbors while celebrating the power of music.”
While the series remains committed to its core genres, Struthers Library Theatre is always looking for opportunities to expand its offerings.
“Keeping Roots Rising concise is crucial to its growth,” Hoffman explained. “But we’re constantly exploring new ways to bring more to the community.”
