School district announces reconfiguration plans
The Warren County School District (WCSD) has unveiled its plans for significant school reconfiguration changes set to take effect in the 2025-26 academic year.
The transition includes moving grades 9-12 students from Youngsville Middle High School to Eisenhower Middle High School and Sheffield Area Middle High School to Warren Area High School.
In a letter to parents, district officials said the district wants to support families during the closure process.
“We understand that transitions like these can bring about many questions and concerns, and we are committed to making this process as smooth and supportive as possible for our students and families,” the district said.
To prepare for the upcoming changes, students will receive course selection packets in the coming weeks. Course offerings will be based on student selections and interests, following a format similar to past years.
Families living in the Youngsville attendance area will automatically be assigned to Eisenhower. However, those who want to transfer to Warren Area High School must submit a reconfiguration transfer request by Feb. 14. Other transfer requests will adhere to the district’s standard policies.
Regarding athletics, district officials clarified: “The information on Warren sports is in regard to students in Youngsville that are choosing to go to Warren. We need to get a list of those athletes together so that we can work with District 10 and the PIAA. All students going to Eisenhower will be able to register for sports as they normally would with no issues.”
For students from Sheffield who want to attend Eisenhower, the district noted they must follow the standard transfer procedures.
“Youngsville students in grades 8-12 have the option to choose because geographically there are a number of students within the same distance to both schools and we are providing transportation in both directions. Sheffield students would need to follow the normal transfer procedures in order to attend Eisenhower,” district officials wrote.
The reconfiguration plan also involves transitioning Youngsville Middle School students in sixth through eighth grades back to Youngsville Elementary School, which will be renamed Youngsville Elementary Middle School. The timeline for this transition mirrors that of the high school consolidation.
The timeline is:
– January 27, 2025: A special board meeting will propose a motion to relocate middle school students and officially close the Youngsville Middle High School building.
– February 2025: A public hearing will be held on the proposed changes, followed by a 90-day waiting period.
– May 2025: A special meeting is expected to finalize the decision to consolidate the middle school.
The district’s Central Office administration is collaborating with building principals to ensure adequate resources and programs are in place to support students throughout the closure transition. The district encourages families to regularly check the district website for updates and details about scheduling, transfer procedures, and transportation.
Parents with questions are encouraged to contact the district office for clarification.
“We are working toward the goal of having students ready to go to their respective buildings at the start of school,” stated WCSD.
