Superintendent: logistical work to transition students to begin

The atmosphere was contentious and it was standing room only at the Warren County District School Central Administrative Offices meeting room.

Gary Weber, Warren Central School District superintendent, released a statement following Monday’s vote to close Sheffield and Youngsville high schools. That statement reads:

On January 13, 2025, the Warren County School District School Board voted in favor of consolidating high schools as part of a strategic plan to enhance academic offerings and achieve long-term financial sustainability.

The decision follows a comprehensive review of academic opportunities, student enrollment patterns, and financial projections, all aimed at better preparing students for success in an increasingly competitive world. By consolidating resources, the district will be able to offer expanded course offerings that will better serve the diverse needs of all students.

Tonight’s decision is a pivotal step toward creating a more equitable educational experience for our students. High school consolidation will increase course options, including a more diverse range of electives. This will allow students to explore a variety of academic and vocational interests, supported by a more flexible master schedule.

The new structure will also lead to significant cost savings, which will be used to balance the budget. The cost savings offer an alternative path that enhances educational services while addressing financial realities. The district is committed to ensuring that this transition is as seamless as possible for students, parents, and faculty.

In summary, consolidating Sheffield and Youngsville High Schools offers a sustainable solution that maximizes academic opportunities for our students, avoids sustainable renovation costs, and generates significant financial savings. By taking this step, we can secure a brighter educational and financial future for the district.

In the coming months, we will be working through logistics with the board and community by providing more detailed information and gathering additional feedback for the transition of students.
