Memory Cafes to be held 2nd Thursday of each month
The Rouse Home and Allegheny Community Center are partnering for a free monthly memory cafe once a month.
Held at the Allegheny Community Center, 42 Clark St., Warren, on the second Thursday of every month from noon to 2 p.m. The Memory Cafe provides engaging activities led by experienced dementia practitioners from Rouse. These activities promote cognitive stimulation, creativity, and social interaction in a relaxed setting. From memory games to arts and crafts, the goal is to foster joy and connection.
While participants enjoy these activities, caregivers have an opportunity to take a break. ACC staff offer a complimentary art activity to help caregivers unwind and focus on their well-being. This is a time for them to relax, knowing their loved ones are in good hands. Others may socialize with fellow caregivers, sharing experiences and support in a judgment-free space, further enhancing the feeling of being cared for.
Expert Rouse dementia practitioners lead the Memory Cafe. Reyd Martin, director of CORE Services at the Rouse, is a dementia care professional with multiple certifications in Alzheimer’s and dementia training, communication, and person-centered care. With expertise in specialized approaches such as Montessori-based dementia care and the Best Friends method, they strive to create meaningful, engaging experiences for individuals with dementia while offering valuable support to caregivers. Jen Buvoltz of Rouse Life Enrichment has years of experience in recreation and dementia care services. Both facilitators bring expertise and passion to creating a warm, engaging environment for attendees.
The next Memory Cafe is scheduled for March 13, and caregivers and their loved ones are encouraged to attend. It’s an opportunity to connect, access resources, and gain support from those who understand the challenges of dementia care.
“At Rouse, we are committed to raising awareness about Alzheimer’s disease and dementia while providing essential outreach and resources,” Martin said. “The Memory Café is just one way we strive to support individuals and caregivers in our community.”
