Warren Area Elementary Center staff traded their classrooms for the counter at McDonald’s for a special McTeacher Night fundraiser — and the community turned out in full force to support them.

The event saw teachers, paraprofessionals, counselors, administrators and PTO members serving up meals with smiles, all while raising money for the Little Dragons and the school’s Positive Behavior Interventions & Supports (PBIS) program.

“We were absolutely thrilled with the turnout,” said Kristen Everetts, WAEC school counselor. “The energy was incredible, and seeing our students and their families coming together to support our school was truly heartwarming.”

WAEC has hosted McTeacher Night events in the past, including in March and October 2017 and September 2018, and the return of the event was met with excitement from staff and families alike.

More than 15 WAEC staff members participated in the evening, working behind the counter, taking orders and engaging with students in a fun and memorable way.

“The kids absolutely loved seeing their teachers outside of school, flipping burgers and handing out fries,” said Everetts. “It was such a great way to connect with families in a different setting while raising money for a great cause.”

A portion of the night’s proceeds will go toward WAEC’s PBIS program, which encourages positive student behaviors through the F.I.R.E. initiative: Friendship, Independence, Responsibility, and Excellence. Money raised will help support the Bucket Filler program, which recognizes students for demonstrating good behavior and allows them to participate in special incentives like: glow parties, egg hunts and track and field water week.

“This fundraiser allows us to continue rewarding and recognizing students in new, fun, and meaningful ways,” said Everetts. “It’s all about fostering a positive learning environment where our students feel encouraged and excited to do their best.”

The WAEC team worked hard in the weeks leading up to the event to spread the word, sharing details in newsletters, the Rooms communication app, and on Facebook. Their efforts paid off, as families turned out in large numbers to show their support.

“We can’t thank our WAEC families enough for making this event such a success,” Everetts said. “The enthusiasm and support we received remind us just how special our school community is. We can’t wait to do it again!”

Starting at $2.99/week.
