Warren woman awarded People’s Choice at annual nature art showcase

Photos submitted to the Times Observer Sharaya Vivian of Warren, Pa, was awarded People's Choice award in the three-dimensional category at the Ninth Annual Nature Art Showcase.

A Warren artist is among the winners at the recent Franklin On Ice Festival.

The art showcase and sale featured more than 140 original art items made using diverse techniques and features depictions of outdoor recreation and natural resources of northwestern Pennsylvania.

The Council on Greenways and Trails and Penn Soil Resource Conservation & Development Council invited guests to select their favorites in the categories of Two-Dimensional, Three-Dimensional, and Pollinators. “Pollinators” was an optional theme this year, covering the bases of the insects and other critters that distribute pollen through the flowers, plants, fruits, and vegetables that result from successful pollination.

Sharaya Vivian of Warren, Pa., incorporated needle felting when creating the Three-Dimensional category People’s Choice award recipient, entitled “Peeking.” The item features a felted squirrel looking out of a hollow log, a piece that not only showcases her skill but also her ability to bring nature to life through art. Vivian shared that she utilizes nature and art in homeschooling her children.

This free public event was jointly coordinated by two area non-profit organizations: the Penn Soil Resource Conservation and Development Council, based in Warren, Pa., serving eight counties in northwestern Pennsylvania, and the Council on Greenways and Trails, based in Oil City, Pa., focusing on Clarion, Crawford, and Venango counties.
