Youth Leadership Program leads activities

Photo provided to the Times Observer Youth Leadership Program participants recently toured the Struthers Library Theatre, one of the many opportunities the program provides to youth in sixth through eighth grades.
The Warren Forest Higher Education Council’s Youth Leadership Program recently hosted a session focused on public speaking.
Held at the historic Warren Woman’s Club, the event brought together middle school students eager to enhance their leadership skills. The group also took a field trip to the Struthers Library Theatre, where Executive Director Karen Austin provided an educational and entertaining tour of the iconic venue.
Students explored the backstage areas, including dressing rooms, and learned about the theater, complete with tales of its resident ghosts.
One highlight of the tour was the opportunity for each participant to perform on the theater’s historic stage. The group sang Happy Birthday, and Austin joked, “Now you can all say you’ve performed at Struthers Library Theatre.”
Reflecting on the day’s activities, Angela Bigelow, Assistant Director and School-to-Work Coordinator for Hi-Ed, expressed her admiration for the program’s presenters and their impact.
“Whenever we go to a new location, I’m blown away by what our presenters do for us. They make each session so memorable and meaningful for the kids.”
The Youth Leadership Program, designed for grades 6-8 students, meets monthly on scheduled school days off. Each session focuses on a specific aspect of leadership and is paired with visits to local businesses and organizations to see these principles in action.
The program will culminate in an exciting trip to Harrisburg, where students will meet with state leaders and witness Pennsylvania’s government in action.
Registration for the next season of the Youth Leadership Program will open this summer. To stay updated, visit www.Hi-Ed.org or follow the Warren Forest Higher Education Council on Facebook. Don’t miss this incredible opportunity to help young leaders grow, learn, and shine.
