Blue Morning to perform this Saturday at Struthers

Submitted photo Saturday, Blue Morning is scheduled to recreate the music of Foreigner at 7 p.m. at the Struthers Library Theatre, located at 302 W. Third Ave.

WARREN, Pa. – Foreigner was the first band Jim Cheronis ever saw perform live at The Aud, in Buffalo.

After the concert Cheronis knew exactly what he wanted to be.

“I wanted to be a juke box hero,” Cheronis said. “I saw him (Lou Gramm) perform Juke Box Hero at The Aud (Buffalo Memorial Auditorium).”

Juke Box Hero is a song from Foreigner’s 1981 album 4. Gramm was the former lead singer and co-songwriter for Foreigner.

“It was 18,000 to 20,000 screaming people, and it was magnificent,” Cheronis said of the concert. “I was just totally awestruck. I said ‘I wish I could do that.'”

If you know the song, and you follow Blue Morning, then you could see how Cheronis kind of loosely follows the song’s lyrics.

Blue Morning is a Foreigner tribute band, and Cheronis is the lead singer.

“I’m in the band because I love, I love Foreigner,” Cheronis said.

And to keep things interesting, Cheronis said the band has expanded its set list to perform songs from bands that toured with Foreigner.

Blue Morning wasn’t created just on a whim, but rather it was decided by someone who once was associated with Gramm.

According to Cheronis, Blue Morning members take pride in performing songs live that are as close to the recorded versions of the songs.

And the reason they can is keyboardist Anthony Brown.

Brown was once asked to play keyboards for the Lou Gramm Allstars, Cheronis said, but ultimately, Brown was not chosen for the gig as Gramm did not want to make a lineup change at that time.

“So, Anthony was at first very despondent, and very bummed, and then he got a little upset,” Cheronis said. “And then he said, ‘I’ve learned all the Foreigner songs. I’m going to make my own band up.'”

And Brown did. Blue Morning was formed with musicians from Western New York and Northwestern Pennsylvania.

And Cheronis said he loves playing for the hometown crowd.

“At the Library Theatre, we’re going to throw it all out there.”
