critical thinking and creative leadership. The session began with a word-arranging exercise, prompting students to reconstruct and redefine the concepts of innovation and critical thinking. This exercise set the stage for a series of problem-solving activities that challenged them to think beyond traditional approaches and develop unique solutions.

Following the session, students toured NPRC’s downtown Warren location, guided by Kelsey Angove, assistant director of recruitment and community engagement. During the tour, they encountered a piece of history–Victorian-era shoes hidden in the walls, a historical tradition once believed to bring good luck.

“Our goal is to expose students to new ways of thinking while showing them the opportunities available right here in our community,” said Angela Bigelow, assistant director and school to work coordinator of Warren Forest Higher Education Council. “NPRC created an exciting and inspiring environment where students could challenge themselves and see how creativity plays a role in leadership and careers.”

The Hi-Ed Youth Leadership Program, tailored for students in sixth through eighth grades across Warren County, offers immersive learning experiences at local businesses and organizations. A new Youth Leadership cohort will be announced later this summer. For more information, follow the Warren Forest Higher Education Council’s Facebook page or visit www.hi-ed.org.
