Music fans in Warren are in for a special night of original Americana and alt-country as the Roots Rising Concert Series presents India Ramey at the Struthers Library Theatre on Friday at 8 p.m.

The concert is sponsored by the Warren Concert Association and will feature Sophie Gault as the opening act. Tickets are $20 and doors open at 7 p.m.

Her latest album, Baptized By The Blaze, was released in August. A domestic violence survivor, she initially pursued a law degree and became a prosecutor specializing in domestic violence cases. However, her passion for music never faded. Eventually, she left her legal career to pursue music full-time.

“Having grown up poor, there was a lot of pressure for me to ‘go to college and make money,’ so I convinced myself that music was a hobby,” Ramey said.

Ramey has released five studio albums under her belt, with her 2017 album, Snake Handler, landing on Rolling Stone’s “10 New Country Artists You Need to Know” list, while her 2020 release, Shallow Graves, drew praise from BBC’s Ralph McClean and Rolling Stone, which called her sound “part honky-tonk, part Black Sabbath.” She has performed at SXSW, Americanafest, and opened for artists like Corb Lund and Grammy-nominated Maggie Rose. She will kick off 2025 as part of the SiriusXM Outlaw Country Cruise before continuing a spring tour.
