Sugar Grove bridge replacement to begin

SUGAR GROVE – A $1.3 million project to replace the bridge that carries Route 27 over Patchen Run in Sugar Grove Township is scheduled to begin soon.

The project includes the replacement of the existing structure with a new concrete bridge. Work will also include minimal paving on both sides of the bridge, drainage updates, slope stabilization, and roadway shoulder repairs.

Construction is expected to begin Monday,weather permitting, and is expected to be completed by October.

A detour will be required during construction and is expected to be in place from March 31 through Aug. 22. A detour route will be posted using Route 69, Route 62, and Route 6.

The existing concrete T-beam bridge was built in 1931. It is classified as poor condition and is posted with a 24-ton weight limit. Approximately 1,100 vehicles a day use the bridge, on average.

The contractor is Bob Cummins Construction of Bradford, Pennsylvania. The contract cost is $1,301,301.30, which is to be paid entirely with state funds.
