WCVB launches Fishing Tackle Loaner Program

Just in time for the 2025 trout season, the Warren County Visitors Bureau is participating in the Pennsylvania Fish & Boat Commission’s (PFBC) Fishing Tackle Loaner Program.
The program aims to make fishing more accessible by providing free access to rods, reels, and tackle.
“We at the Warren County Visitors Bureau see it as a chance to get more people out enjoying nature and maybe trying something new,” said Casey Ferry, Warren County Visitors Bureau executive director. “We envision a family having a day by the river making memories they wouldn’t have experienced otherwise. Who knows? They might just get hooked and become avid fishermen. Or maybe it’s just a one-time experience. Either way, we’re happy to be a part of elevating the experience that is outdoor recreation in Warren County.”
The state created the Fishing Tackle Loaner Program in partnership with the fishing tackle industry and various organizations to encourage people to experience fishing without needing personal equipment. Pennsylvania fishing regulations still apply, including licensing requirements. Those interested in borrowing equipment must have a valid Pennsylvania fishing license, which can be purchased locally or online. The WCVB does not sell fishing licenses but provides information on where licenses can be obtained.
The WCVB joins Chapman State Park as one of two locations in Warren County participating in the program. Numerous tackle loaner sites exist statewide, and they can be found on the PFBC website at Fishing Tackle Loaner Program.
The process to borrow equipment is straightforward: visit the WCVB, complete a brief form, enjoy a day of fishing, and return the gear in good condition within three days. Equipment is available on a first-come, first-served basis and cannot be reserved. Borrowers must be at least 18 years old to check out the gear.
“We want to thank the PA Fish & Boat Commission,” Ferry said. “They have been fantastic to work with and have provided some really nice equipment. We’re thrilled to work with them and get more people out by the water. Warren County has amazing fishing opportunities, and we want to capitalize on it.”
The Warren County Visitors Bureau is located at 22045 Route 6 in Starbrick. It operates Monday through Friday from 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. with additional Saturday hours from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. from May through October.
