Youth Art Month celebrated at Warren Public Library

Photos submitted to the Times Observer Mya Alsbaugh, a kindergarten student at Eisenhower Elementary School, proudly displays her mixed media artwork inspired by artist Jim Dine. Her piece, created using tempera paint and oil pastels, is featured in the Youth Art Month exhibit at the Warren Public Library.

The Warren Public Library is showcasing local students’ artwork throughout March in celebration of Youth Art Month.

The exhibit includes pieces from Warren County School District students in kindergarten through eighth grades, home-schooled students and students from Saint Joseph Catholic School.

“I look forward to Youth Art Month every year,” said Jessica Shoemaker, an educator at Eisenhower and coordinator of the Youth Art Month show. “I always love featuring the students’ artwork.

They get so excited to see their artwork displayed at the library. Their smiles, creativity, and pride make it such a rewarding experience as an art teacher.”

This year’s display includes a memorial for Andrew Pollard, a former art teacher at Eisenhower who passed away in February. The tribute features artwork he created with students and some of his teaching examples, recognizing his contributions to art education in Warren County.

One of the featured pieces is a mixed-media project by Mya Alsbaugh, a kindergarten student at Eisenhower Elementary School. Her artwork was inspired by Jim Dine.

“We discussed him as an artist and examined his artwork,” Shoemaker said. “Then, we used tempera paint and oil pastels to create the artwork.”
