As part of its ongoing commitment to diversity and inclusion, First Lutheran Church will host the next event in its educational speaker series, Valued: Celebrating Our Differences, on Tuesday, April 29, at 6 p.m.

The event will be held at First Lutheran Church, 109 W. Third Ave., Warren. Admission is free and open to the public.

The evening’s topic, “What is neurodiversity? What does it really look like?” will be led by Dr. John P. John, a board-certified psychiatrist currently practicing at Deerfield Behavioral Health in Warren.

This session aims to deepen the community’s understanding of neurodiversity — a concept that recognizes brain differences such as autism, ADHD, and other neurological conditions as natural variations rather than deficits. Dr. John will explore how these differences can shape individuals’ experiences and highlight the unique perspectives neurodivergent people bring to society. John has more than 30 years experience, and his discussion can provide new tools for community members, educators, caregivers, and anyone looking to better understand and support neurodivergent individuals.

The presentation will also address common misunderstandings and the impact of unfair judgments on neurodivergent individuals, offering guidance on how to foster a more inclusive and compassionate environment.

“While it may seem like a growing trend, neurodivergence has always been around – we just didn’t have the words to describe it,” said Barb Hill, one of the organizers. “This seminar is essential for everyone – we all have a neurodivergent person in our life, whether we know it or not.”

Starting at $2.99/week.
