Farm Bureau’s Mobile Ag Lab visiting county schools

This spring, students across Warren County are experiencing agriculture in a whole new way, thanks to the Pennsylvania Farm Bureau’s Mobile Agriculture Education Science Lab.

The 40-foot mobile classroom is making its rounds to local schools, offering interactive, hands-on science experiments that connect classroom learning to real-world farming and food production. The Mobile Ag Lab is a traveling science lab designed for students in kindergarten through eighth grades. Equipped with 12 workstations, the lab can accommodate up to 900 students per week, leading them through experiments that explore topics such as soil health, plant growth, biotechnology, and Pennsylvania’s agricultural commodities. Each lesson is aligned with state education standards and is led by a certified teacher.

“With fewer students having a tie to farming, we created the Ag Lab to help teachers educate more students about the importance of agriculture,” said Carl T. Shaffer, president of the Pennsylvania Farm Bureau.

This week, the Ag Lab is stationed at Eisenhower Middle/High School. In the coming weeks, it will visit other schools throughout the county, including Tidioute Community Charter School, where the Warren County Farm Bureau and Warren Higher Education Council have collaborated to sponsor the lab’s visit.

“We’re proud to support this initiative,” said Ruth Morrison of the Warren County Farm Bureau. “It’s a fantastic way to bring agriculture into the classroom and spark curiosity in our students.”

The Mobile Ag Lab is operated by the Pennsylvania Friends of Agriculture Foundation, a division of the Pennsylvania Farm Bureau. The program aims to educate students about the importance of agriculture in their daily lives and the role it plays in Pennsylvania’s economy.

Parents and community members are encouraged to inquire with their local schools about the lab’s schedule and may have the opportunity to visit the lab during its stay. For more information about the Mobile Ag Lab and its educational programs, visit pfbfriends.com.
