First Fridays will begin on May 2 in downtown Warren

Photo submitted to the Times Observer Local performer Alyssa Wismer is pictured warming up near the fountain, one of the planned busking sites as part of the First Friday concert series.
Stores will be open and Liberty Street will be closed.
The first installment of First Friday on May 2 will include an art walk with local artists’ work featured in storefront windows while June 6 will include a chalk art contest. Aug. 8 will include a car show and Sept. 5 is “Harvest Happenings.” The weekend of July Fourth will include the classic parade and activities, with no First Friday events scheduled.
A special feature of First Fridays is having street performers, known as “buskers.” Individual and group singers, musicians, dancers, jugglers, skit performers, and other performers are welcome. There will be at least two locations where buskers can perform and collecting tips is permitted. Busking can be a first public appearance opportunity for youngsters and beginners and a way for older artists to show off their passion. Busking hours will be 5 to 7 p.m., with busker performances ending just as Music in the Park begins.
The concert series is a collaboration of the City of Warren, the Warren County Council of Business and Industry, and Explore Downtown Warren. Buskers and interested vendors must contact Kassie Damcott at the Warren City Office at 814-723-6300. Permits may be required if sales are involved.
