Shop Hop scavenger hunt begins today

Photo submitted to the Times Observer Artisans from the Tybout House are pictured with bunnies they made that are the subject of a scavenger hunt in several Warren businesses from today through April 19.

Downtown Warren is about to be invaded by bunnies.

The handmade bunnies at the heart of the Shop Hop were lovingly created by the community at Tybout House. “About six people made bunnies with a large group that supported their efforts,” said Victoria Boehmer, owner of the Tybout House. “We got into a rhythm and can make a rabbit in two hours. Most of the yarn was donated by the knitters and crocheters at the shop and all of their efforts and time was donated. I have a lovely group of ladies who support our community efforts.”

What are the bunnies for, you may ask?

They’re the featured attraction of the Shop Hop, which starts today and ends April 19.

There are 16 businesses participating, with shoppers invited to hop from shop to shop in search of a special handmade bunny. Grab a punch card at any participating business, find the bunny hidden in each shop and receive a stamp on the card and then snap a selfie – which is optional – and tag the business and mention Explore Downtown Warren, PA to enter the selfie contest. Complete the hunt by collecting all 16 business stamps and return a full punch card to any participating location. Several winners will receive individual gift cards to participating businesses, while one grand prize winner will receive gift cards to all 16 shops.

Participating businesses include Gaughn’s Drug Store, Chloe’s Creamery, Tybout House, Stonehill Chocolates, Virg-Ann Flower & Gift Shop, Nice Ash Cigars Warren, Twig & Vine, Phase Two, Bough and Bend Floral, Warren Antiques & Giftware at SAE, Allegheny Outfitters, Wicked Warren’s, Salsa Soleil, Free Books for Kids Town, the Jefferson DeFrees Family Center and the Arbor Coffee House Cafe & Tea Room.

“(It’s about) some excitement downtown,” said Wendy McCain, a Warren City Council member and owner of twig & vine, one of the participating businesses. “People exploring some of the new businesses. Fun for young and old.”

Starting at $2.99/week.
