Unclaimed property clinic to be held this Wednesday

Stacy Garrity, state treasurer, speaks during a March 24 news conference about Pennsylvania Money Match checks that some state residents are receiving. The program allows the state Treasury Department to return certain unclaimed property to rightful owners automatically.
In a collaborative effort with the Pennsylvania Treasury Department, residents and business owners are invited to meet Heidi Villella, the local Treasury Department representative, at a free unclaimed property clinic on Wednesday.
Hours are 5 to 7 p.m. at Innovault CoWorking, 201 Liberty St., Warren. No appointment is necessary.
Hosted by the Warren County Chamber of Business and Industry (WCCBI), this business after hours seminar aims to assist individuals in discovering and recovering unclaimed property at no cost. Attendees will have the chance to learn about programs offered by the Treasury Department as well.
“Returning unclaimed property is one of my favorite parts of being state Treasurer,” said Stacy Garrity, state treasurer. “Every dollar we return to families in our Commonwealth’s rural communities helps them buy groceries, fill their cars with gas, or pay their rent or mortgage. I was born, raised, and still live in Bradford County – one of the most rural counties in the state – and rural outreach has been one of my top priorities as state treasurer. It’s why I’ve traveled to each one of our 67 counties at least once every year since I’ve taken office, and why I expanded the Treasury’s outreach team in 2022. We want to meet people in their own backyards and make sure they know what our office has to offer them, like unclaimed property, PA 529, Keystone Scholars, and PA ABLE– all fantastic programs to help Pennsylvania families thrive.”
Some state residents will also begin receiving the first Pennsylvania Money Match checks. Pennsylvania Money Match is a new program that allows the state Treasury Department to return certain unclaimed property to rightful owners automatically. The program was approved unanimously by state legislators and signed into law by Gov. Josh Shapiro. The first round of checks will total $1.7 million.
“In the coming days, more than 7,000 people will receive Pennsylvania Money Match checks totaling more than $1.7 million – and most of these folks didn’t even realize they had unclaimed property waiting for them,” Garrity said. “We want to get the word out about this program, and let people know that these checks will be arriving, so everyone knows that this is a real program, this is real money, and it belongs to them!”
