Victims Impact Panel hosts 5K fundraiser

Runners laced up their sneakers and took to the trails at Betts Park recently for the Warren County PA Victim Impact Panel’s annual 5K Run.
The annual run raises money for the organization’s scholarship program and to further the panel’s mission of promoting safe, responsible driving throughout the county.
Nearly 50 people participated in the race this year. Cora Gaibel was named the overall female winner, while Matt Jimmerson took home the title of overall male winner.
“Our mission is simple: to save lives and make highways safer,” said Karin Cook, vice president of the Warren County Victim Impact Panel. “We’re not against drinking, but we believe strongly in making responsible choices — that means no impaired or distracted driving.”
The panel, a non-profit organization, works year-round to raise awareness about the dangers of driving under the influence – whether that be alcohol, drugs, or distractions like texting. They offer presentations to DUI offenders, participate in mock crash events at schools, and partner with groups like Students Against Destructive Decisions to reach young people with messages about making safe choices behind the wheel.
Proceeds from the 5K go toward scholarships awarded to one senior at each Warren County high school, helping deserving students pursue their educational goals while reinforcing the importance of making positive life decisions.
The Victim Impact Panel also works closely with the Pennsylvania DUI Association and community law enforcement to amplify their outreach and prevention efforts.
Cook emphasized the importance of community support.
“Events like this are made possible because of our incredible sponsors and volunteers. We truly couldn’t do it without them.”
Sponsors included Pennsylvania Northern Pennsylvania Regional College, Warren Eagles Club #313, Sugar Grove American Legion Post 758, Ed Shults of Warren, Donald E. Lewis Funeral Home, Inc., Whirley-DrinkWorks!, Kinzua Federal Credit Union, Johnson’s Tire Service, A&B Heating & Sheet Metal Co., Warren County YMCA, Elks Lodge #223, Zippo, Lowe’s Home Improvement, Ekey Marketplace, Warren County Career Center, Pine Grove Township, John Anderson Construction, Ida Mae’s Restaurant and Farrah Grotto of Warren County
The organization encourages the public to stay connected and get involved by following their Facebook page and group, Warren County PA Victim Impact Panel, to learn more about upcoming events, programs, and volunteer opportunities.
“We appreciate all the support we receive,” said Cook. “Together, we can help ensure that our roads are safer, and that our young people have the tools they need to make wise, informed decisions.”
