David Louis Maze
David Louis Maze, 84, of North Warren, PA, passed away Saturday March 2, 2019 at Warren Manor surrounded by his wife and family.
David was born December 3, 1934 in Warren, PA. He was the son of the late Stephen and Dorothy Nuhfer Maze. He attended school in Warren and enlisted in the US Army during the Korean War. While in the Army, he served as an infantryman in the 25th Infantry Division while stationed in Hawaii. He was discharged from active duty October 1956 and served an additional 10 years in the reserves on standby status. Jobs that he held after the Army included working as a chauffeur and handyman for Miss Anna Rockwell, working as a welder for PDM Steel where he helped create the Saint Louis Arch, working for PennDot and Struthers Wells, and finally the City of Warren Department of Public works where he retired in 1996. He was heavily involved in the community. He belonged to several organizations including the Chief Cornplanter drum and bugle corps, being a lifetime member of the Pennsylvania and Warren County Fire Police (where he served as a commissioner of both), being a lifetime member of the American Legion, lifetime member of the North Warren Volunteer Fire Department (where he held several offices and drove ambulance for 25 years), and a member of the Eagles club and Lakewood Rod and Gun Club. He was a member of the North Warren Presbyterian church. He enjoyed dancing, playing cards, and going to bingo several nights a week, and watching western movies. John Wayne was his favorite actor. His family always referred to him as the unofficial “mayor of North Warren”, due to being well acquainted with the entire community.
He is survived by his wife Janet Maurer Maze, whom he married December 22, 1955; his children, Michele (Richard II) Clark of Warren, Lou Anne Maze of Granada Hills, California, Janene (David) Zaffino of North Warren; his grandchildren Alicia (Jonathan) Bennett, Kayla (Matthew) Smith and Riley Zaffino; his four great granddaughters, brothers Virgil (Virginia) Maze, Clifford and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his sister Patricia Borland, and brother Kenneth Maze.
Friends will be received from 68 P.M. on Tuesday, March 5, 2019 and from 1011 A.M. on Wednesday, March 6, 2019 at the Peterson-Blick Funeral Home, Inc. 1003 Penna. Ave. E. Warren, PA 16365. A funeral service will be held at theat the funeral home on Wednesday, March 6, 2019, at 11 A.M., with Rev. Buddy Ward, pastor, officiating.
In lieu of flowers, it has been requested that memorial donations be made to the North Warren V.F.D., 12 S State St, Warren, PA 16365 or to the Warren County Fire Dept.,314 W 3rd Ave, Warren, PA 16365 and Warren County Police Dept., 318 W 3rd Ave #3, Warren, PA 16365.
