George “Lee” Munch

George “Lee” Munch, 84, of Warren, passed away on Feb. 23, 2022, at Allegheny General Hospital, Pittsburgh, following a recent illness.

George was born on Sept. 18, 1937, in Warren, Pa., the son of the late George E. and Thelma Pontius Munch.

He was a lifelong Warren resident, and a 1955 graduate of Warren Area High School. George retired from the New Process Company Blair Corporation as an operations director after a 47 year career with the company.

He loved the game of golf, although the game not always loved him. George loved his time on the course with friends, taking many motor home tours to golf courses near and far. He was an avid bowler and supporter of local bowling talent.

George was a member of the of the Elks Lodge 223, the Moose Lodge 109, and the Fraternal Order of Ea-gles 313.

For many, George will be remembered best as a die-hard Pittsburgh Pirates fan and local coach of youth baseball and women’s softball. He coached all his children and likely could tell you details of nearly every game.

Of all the things he en-joyed, he was most committed to his family, especially his children’s and grandchildren’s activities. George and Shirley could always be found on a bleacher, theater seat, or in a lawn chair when their family members were playing or performing. He will forever be remembered as a loving husband, father, grandfather, great-grand-father, father-in-law, brother and friend to many.

George is survived by his wife, Shirley A. Knapp Munch, whom he married on June 15, 1956; five children: Chris Ann Munch and companion, Ron Seybert of Warren, Pa., Stephen L. Munch and wife, Susie of Columbus, Ga., Michael “Ed” Munch and wife, Tracey of Russell, Pa., Jennifer T. Dilks and husband, Bob of Warren, Pa., and Andrew C. Munch and wife. Warren, Pa., on Monday, Feb. 28, 2022, from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at which time a funeral service will be held, with the Rev. Matthew Scott, pastor, Trinity Memorial Episcopal Church, officiating. The family kindly asks that masks be worn in the funeral home as a precaution.
