Robert W. Wiles

Robert W. Wiles, 90, a longtime resident of Warren, passed away on June 5, 2022, at his residence. He lived at home until his death with the nurturing care of his dedicated son, Jim Wiles, and then his grandson, James B Wiles, and his wife and family. Bob always had a smile on his face. He was known to many as Bob, Owner of Bob Butcher Shop, who cut up deer for many years. Recently his children, grandchildren, and extended family gathered to celebrate his 90th birthday and his long and wonderful life filled with love and laughter.

Bob was born on May 10, 1932, in Butler, PA, the son of the late James W. Wiles and Viola Waite Wiles. He was a 1950 graduate of East Brady High School. He then began his career as a butcher working at Tops All until, he was drafted into the United States Air Force from 1952 to 1956 to serve in the Korean War.

Bob moved to Warren in 1965 and joined with his brother, Curly, in running the Wiles Friendly Food Store on 5th St. In 1970, Bob went out on his own and opened Bob’s Red and White in North Warren. He had to close this in 1974 due to the meat boycott. He got a job at the U.S. Post office and also opened a butcher shop at his house where he did customize butchering and deer processing. He retired from the Post Office in 1987, but continued doing butchering until 2012.

Bob was a member of St. John’s Lutheran Church for over 55 years and a life member of the North Star Masonic Lodge.

Bob’s family was his pride and joy. In the1980’s, Bob struggled for a month to quit smoking and DID it! because he wanted to live to see his grandchildren. He loved playing cards, being around with friends and family whom he loved, and being a part of his church community.
