Gary E. Hoffman

Gary E. Hoffman passed away Wednesday, July 13, 2022, at the Jewish Home of Rochester, N.Y,. after a prolonged and courageous battle with multiple diseases due to Agent Orange exposure in Vietnam. The VA was supportive providing resources and care during Gary’s last four years.

Gary was born May 10, 1947 in Warren, Pa., and graduated in 1965 from Warren Area High School. In 1967, he was drafted by the U.S. Army and did tours in Vietnam and Germany. Upon his return he married and raised his family in the Warren area. During that time, he owned and operated Service Master of Warren for approximately eight years.

Gary found his love for the open road driving truck for Crossett, Sylvania, was owner/operator for Jones Trucking and drove for the Walmart Distribution Center out of Harrisonburg, Va., totaling over three million miles during his career.

In retirement he drove part-time for Rood trucking and was CDL instructor for the Professional Driver Institute, both of Rochester, N.Y.

Gary was a force of nature, meeting projects and challenges with persistence, a sense of humor, and a generous heart. He is sorely missed.

Gary is survived by his mother, Carriebelle Hoffman of Warren, Pa.; brothers: Kevin Hoffman and wife, Sharon of Harrisburg, Pa., and Rodney Hoffman and wife, Karen of Warren, Pa.; sons: Sean Hoffman and partner, Shawn of Seattle, Wash., and Chad and wife, Tanya of Pittsfield, Pa.; daughter, Nicole Hoffman and partner, Trevor of Warren, Pa.; grandchildren: Tyler Hoffman and wife, Ashley, Sadie and Mason Hoffman; and great grandchild, Lily June. Gary is also survived by his wife Cynthia (Larson/ French) Hoffman who was also a 1965 graduate of Warren. They were high school sweethearts and reconnected after 47 years. They were very happy in the time they had together.

Gary was preceded in death by his father John (‘Jack’) Hoffman.

A memorial service will be held Saturday, July 23 at 11 a.m. at the Grace United Methodist Church, 501 Pennsylvania Ave. E., Warren, Pa. Please join us for fellowship and informal luncheon immediately following.
