Milton C. Dahler
Milton C. Dahler, 100, formerly of Warren, PA, died peacefully on the morning of January 1, 2023 in Bradenton, FL. He was born in Warren, PA, on May 29, 1922, son of John and Matilda Dahler. He was a graduate of Warren Area High School and attended Clarion College.
He joined the US Navy Air Corp in 1943 serving as a blimp pilot which took him to Africa, Italy and France during World War II until his honorable discharge in 1946. Milton received several honors and tributes over the years for his proud service to our country, including one from Retired 4- Star USAF General Richard B. Myers, who said it all with his comments, “Milt was a remarkable patriot and veteran. We are all proud of his many sacrifices for our security. I salute him!”
“Milt” owned his Plumbing and Heating business in Warren for many years and retired after working various plumbers union field jobs in the area.
In his early years, he was a star on the Warren High School gymnastics team and then went on to play semipro baseball. He later was actively involved with mentoring and coaching his sons in youth baseball, basketball and golf programs. He and his family were avid golfers and they enjoyed many special years as members of the Conewango Valley Country Club.
He was an active committee member of the Warren Sports Boosters, the Warren Jaycees and the Warren Elks Lodge 223. As a Jaycee, in 1951, he was instrumental in the implementation of the still ongoing giant holiday greeting sign (“WARREN WISHES YOU…..”) along the south side of the Allegheny River.
For many years, with fellow Jaycee leaders, Dr. ‘Bucky’ Walters and Jim Torrance, he lead the first division of the annual July 4th parade, always appropriately dressed alike right down to their signature Jaycee safari hats!
Milt is survived by his wife of 52 years, Eleanor Jean Baxter. He and ‘Jeannie’ celebrated their 100th birthdays together, in February 2022, with family and friends, along with recognitions in local papers and several accolades from Bradenton and Florida state officials. He and Jeannie moved from Warren in 1994 to Sarasota FL before settling into Freedom Village in Bradenton where they’ve resided since 2004.
He was very well-known, liked and admired by his fellow residents as he’d brighten other’s days with his kindness, humorous wit and smiling face. He and Jeannie lived each day to the fullest and were blessed to have each other for so long. He made friends easily and will be greatly missed by all who knew him.
He was a loving, generous father of sons, David, of Medina, OH, James deceased (Mary) of Lakewood, OH, Mark (Kathleen) of Rocky River, OH and James Mullhaupt (Mary) of Bradenton, FL. He is also survived by 11 grandchildren and 12 great- grandchildren, along with several nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his sister, Eleanor Ritchie Lauffenburger, brothers John Dahler and Harold Baldensberger and son James, in 1996.
At Milt’s request, he will be cremated with a memorial service to be observed at a later date. For his WWII Military Service, he will be entitled to a Military Honor Guard and will be buried in the Sarasota National Cemetery at the family’s convenience.
The family suggests that memorial donations be made to the Warren July 4th Celebration (www.warrenpajuly4th .com) or the Freedom Village Scholarship Fund (LIFE@FVBradenton.com).
