Maxine E. “Midge” Nelson

Maxine E. “Midge” Nelson. 84, of Youngsville, PA., passed away peacefully, after a long battle with dementia.

Midge was born in Pittsfield, Pa., on April 7, 1939, to the late Henry and Gladys Danielson, the second youngest of 6 daughters. Midge grew up in Pittsfield with her sisters Marian, Millie, Mae, Martha and Marie. A graduate of Youngsville High School in 1957, Midge worked for years as a bank teller at Northwest Savings Bank and PNC, and in her later years, at the Youngsville Public Library where, with her love of books, was able to help many readers find that special book they may not have known they were looking for. She loved to travel and spend time in Florida soaking up the beautiful Florida sunshine. She was an active member of the First United Methodist Church in Youngsville, where she had been involved in many activities, and she was a member of the Youngsville chapter of the Order of the Eastern Star. As a family of daughters all with the first names starting with “M”, it was always a challenge for boyfriends and girlfriends to go through the test of naming all the aunts. Some passed the test, many others didn’t.

Many families though, may know and remember Midge from her years working at the Rouse Childrens Center. She was such a gentle soul, full of love and kindness, and had an amazing gift with children. Many of her former “kids’ would always share stories of their time with her at the Childrens Center. She loved spending time with her family, especially her outings with her sisters, reading down by the creek, or baking and cooking for her family. If you had the pleasure of knowing any of the Danielson girls, you knew family was everything to them. Her greatest joys were her grandchildren, Lea and Camren Nelson, Rob and Sarah Dickerson, and Tyler, Bergen and Ryleigh Nelson; and her great-grandchildren Zaiden and Leightyn Vokes. She will be greatly missed by all that knew and loved her.

In addition to her parents, Midge was preceded in death by an infant sister Myrtle, and her sisters Millie (Dick) Graves, and Marian (Don)Aberg; and brother in-law Robert Koehler.

Midge is survived by her children Linda (Randy) Dickerson of Wilmington, NC., Steve Nelson and his companion Michelle Maille of Youngsville, and Scott (Colette) Nelson, also of Youngsville; her sisters Mae (Earl) Arnold of Kentucky, Martha Koehler of Florida, and Marie (Dave) Lewis of South Carolina; her grandchildren, great grandchildren and many, many nieces and nephews.

A celebration of life will be held at a later date, which will be announced. Condolences may be made to the family at nelsonfuneralhome.net. Memorial donations may be made in Midges honor to the Rouse Childrens Center, 238 East Main St, Youngsville, PA; or the Youngsville Public Library, 100 Broad St. Youngsville, PA. 16371.
