Luella Marie Kirsch Slack
Luella Marie Kirsch Slack, 79 of Sheffield, passed away unexpectedly at her home Tuesday evening, May 30, 2023. She was born in Spangler, PA, the daughter of Alcuin Kirsch and Frances Becker Kirsch. Luella Attended the Mercy Hospital Nursing Program where she graduated as a Registered Nurse. Luella met and married the love of her life, James M. Slack on October 16, 1971.
She was very active in St. Anthony’s Roman Catholic Church where she attended regularly and served as both a Liturgist and Eucharistic Minister for many years. She was a devoted Mother and Wife who enjoyed traveling, particularly her trip to Rome to visit the Vatican and other holy sites. She loved visiting her grandchildren and showering them with hugs and gifts. She loved reading, puzzles, crosswords, sudoku, drinking Diet Pepsi and arguing with her husband. Luella was a breast cancer survivor and showed great compassion for all who were ill.
Left behind to cherish Luella’s memory are her husband James Martin Slack of Sheffield; one son, James E. Slack (spouse, Jennifer Kielbasa Slack); two daughters, Charity M. Slack and Hope M. Dropp (spouse, Joseph Dropp III); several grandchildren: Nikeisha Dupree-Slack, Julius McKeever, Tobius McKeever, Corrinne Smith, Tyler Slack, Abigail Slack, Joseph Dropp IV, Faith Dropp and a host of nieces and nephews. She is further survived by several siblings: Alcuin “Nin” Kirsch (LeRena Kirsch, spouse), Archie Kirsch, Leo “Boots” Kirsch (Saundra Louise Kirsch, spouse), Marlene Baumann (James Baumann, spouse) Berniece Kirsch, and Claudia Opfar (Ben Opfar, spouse).
Luella was preceded in death by: Rembrandt Kirsch (brother), Hilary Kirsch (brother), Henry Kirsch (brother) (Mary Kirsch, spouse), Raymond Kirsch (brother), (Emma Kirsch, spouse), Sister Mary Agnes Kirsch, OSB (sister), Alcuin Kirsch (father), Frances Kirsch (mother), and Anne Marie “Mimi” Kirsch (sister-in-law).
Luella’s family will welcome family and friends on Sunday, June 4, 2023, from 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. at the Borden Funeral Home of Sheffield. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. on Monday June 5, 2023, at Saint Anthony’s Roman Catholic Church, Route 6, Sheffield, PA with Father Stephen Schreiber as Celebrant, assisted by Deacon Ray Wiehagen. (Everyone is asked to please meet at the church). Burial will follow at the Sheffield Cemetery.
