Susan Weiler Reynolds
With God’s grace, Susan Weiler Reynolds (Sue) of Anacortes, Wash., and formerly of Starbick, Pa., went to her eternal home in Heaven on July 16, 2023, following a lengthy illness.
Sue was born on July 10, 1938, a daughter of the late Burdette and Dorris (Chapman) Weiler.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by sisters Sybil (Sallie) Stoffan and Jean Black Cameron; husbands Lt. Jack L. Pedersen and CSM George Mikal (Mike) Reynolds; and grandson Jeremiah Newark.
Sue is survived by sister Cloie Hollingshead of Starbrick; sons Jim Newark of Montana, Richard (Cheryll) Newark of California, and Jack Newark of Delaware; five grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren (very soon); and several nieces and nephews.
Sue graduated from Edinboro State College with a BS degree in elementary and special education and taught at Jefferson Street and South Street schools before moving to Anacortes where she taught at Island View Elementary School for over 28 years and earned her Master of Education degree from Western Washington University. After retiring, she volunteered as a teacher’s assistant frequently delighting the children with ice cream.
Sue loved to bake – especially bread, cookies, and tea rings. She was an avid Penn State football fan and attended games at Beaver Stadium and the Rose Bowl. She loved the view of the water, the eagles soaring above, and her roses at her home. Sue enjoyed morning Starbucks lattes and evening baths with her favorite Gewurztraminer wine.
Sue was a member of Westminster Presbyterian Church and served many years as a deacon. Her faith in God, love of family, friends, and life sustained her.
A Celebration of Life is planned in September in Anacortes and a private service at Weiler Cemetery to follow later. Condolences and memories may be shared at: www.evanschapel.com. Memorials are suggested to a charity of choice.
