Jack W. Patterson

Jack W. Patterson

Jack W. Patterson, 81, of Youngsville, passed away Saturday January 27, 2024 at his residence after a long battle with cancer.

He was born July 8, 1942 in New Castle, PA to the late William B. and Sara Ruth (Edminston) Patterson. He graduated from Neshannock High School, New Castle in 1960. Upon graduation, he joined the Marines and served from 1960-1964.

He met his wife Kathryn Campbell while she was in nursing school at Jameson Hospital in New Castle. They were married at Clen-Moore Presbyterian Church on May 1, 1965.

In May of 1966, jack entered the Pennsylvania State Police Academy and graduated in August of that year. He was assigned to the PA Turnpike at Somerset for two years, then transferred to Franklin. He was there for five years and upon promotion, was stationed at the Warren Barracks where he spent his remaining years of service.

Just prior to retiring, he took up the bagpipe. He belonged to the 96th Highlander Pipes and Drum Band of Jamestown, NY for a number of years. After leaving the band, he got many requests to play at funerals.

After retiring, he took a year to build the house we presently live in with the help of his friend and former trooper Mike Fernstrom. For a number of years they built furniture such as tables, dressers and china cabinets, mostly for family.

He enjoyed volunteering, first with “Vacation with a Purpose”, helping after disasters such as hurricanes, tornadoes, or floods, going to places such as Kansas, Mississippi, and Florida until his health didn’t allow him any longer. He worked with the “Kane District Ramp Ministry”, building handicap ramps. He was a long time member of the New Life Church (formerly EUM) of Youngsville.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by his son, Thomas (Denise) Patterson, his daughter Susan (Patrick) Garvey of Wexford, PA, four grandchildren, Zachary (Brenna) Patterson of Harrisburg, Caleb Garvey (Lindsay) of Columbus, OH, Logan and Reyna Garvey of Wexford, PA and his sister, Sandra Sifferman of the Rouse Suites and numerous cousins.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his namesake, uncle Jack Patterson and several aunts and uncles.

Visitation will be held at New Life Church, 18 Second Street, Younsgville, PA 16371, on Friday, February 9, from 2-4pm and also on Saturday, February 10 from 10-11AM at which time a memorial service will be held there with the Rev. Jeff canter, pastor, officiating.

In lieu of flowers, the family strongly suggests memorial donations be made to the New Life Church or to a charity of choice.

The Nelson Funeral Home & Cremation Services in Youngsville have been entrusted with all arrangements. Condolences to the family may be made at nelsonfuneralhome.net.
