Shirley M. Wittig

Shirley M. Wittig, 82, of Corry, PA, went to be with her Heavenly Father on Wednesday, January 31, 2024 at the Corry Manor.

She was born March 11, 1941 in Spartansburg, PA, a daughter of the late Ernest and Arlie (Rogers) Bedow.

Shirley was raised and educated in Spartansburg and graduated from Spartansburg High School in 1959. After high school, she married Norman Wittig on July 18, 1959 in Clymer, NY. They started a family and her primary role was raising and caring for her children. She was a loving wife and mother as well as a sweet, kind and compassionate person. Not only did she care for her family, but also many family pets and even wild animals that needed nursed back to health.

She was a member of New Beginnings Church of God and attended Valley View Mennonite Church. She was involved in PTA and being a room mother as well as being a Sunday school teacher for many years. She was a member of the Garland VFD Women’s Auxiliary. Shirley was very involved with Life Care, Hospice and assistant leader for STARS group for girls. She also volunteered in the GED Program at the Higher Ed building. She enjoyed gardening, crocheting, sewing, knitting and crafting. She loved hummingbirds, butterflies, flowers and plants. Shirley definitely had a green thumb. She had a passion for making homemade gifts,( blankets, quilts, hats ,slippers etc.) for her family and friends. We will always treasure these precious gifts.

One of her favorite past times was spending time with her grandchildren and great grandchildren whom affectionately referred to her as Gram, Grammy or G .

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her sister, Alice Wilcox and three brothers, Jesse, Kenneth and Robert Bedow.

Shirley is survived by her husband, Norman P. Wittig; two daughters, Laurie Chase and her husband Matt and Carla King and her husband David; two sons, Rodger Wittig and his wife Tracey and Evan Black and his wife Martine, a sister, Donna (Bedow) Fahey and her husband Steve.

She is also survived by nine grandchildren, Garrett (Kayla) King, Royce (Sarah) King, Jenna (David) Shreve, Kayann (Noah) Peterson, Nicole(Jos ) Pikutis, Ryan Wittig, Eric (Ashley) Wittig , Emily (Daniel) Crowley and Sam Holquist and three great-grandchildren, Willa King, Bria King and Carolyn Shreve.

A memorial service will be held at a later date.
